The Empire of Nippon demands much of its Samurai: service to one’s lord, service to one’s Clan, and service to one’s Emperor. Bushido’s staunch and unyielding code of conduct binds Samurai to duty, strengthening their character and defining their choices. A Nipponese army on the march is a spectacular sight to behold. Thousands, sometimes tens of thousands of Samurai and Ashigaru march in formation, resplendent in their armour, the sun glittering off their weapons, their battle standards and back-banners fluttering, the dust of their passage lingering long after they have marched on.

Nippon

Units with mantlets must place them on separate bases in front of the unit. Every model in the front rank must have a mantlet base in front of it, which must also be set up within the army's deployment zone. A unit with mantlets gains a 4+ armour save against missile attacks to its front arc (except attacks that fire like a stone thrower). However, if the unit moves or reforms during the game, the mantlets are removed from play.

You will notice that there are two values in the profiles. "Combat" indicates the armour save the model will receive against close combat attacks, templates and direct damage spells, and "missile" indicates the armour save the model will receive against normal shooting attacks and magic missiles. The first value indicates the armour save modifier each piece of armour gives to the model’s total armour save, whereas the second value is the basic armour save given to the model by that particular piece of equipment.
