An army may include a Hero character to be its Battle Standard Bearer.

Every army may have a Battle Standard Bearer. This is option is explained in each Warhammer Armies book. Some books might have the option for several characters to the Battle Standard Bearer. In this case, only one of them may be nominated.

Unless specified, the Battle Standard Bearer may not be the Army General.

The Battle Standard Bearer has the Hold Your Ground (12) special rule.

If a Battle Standard Bearer is in a unit and Refuses a Challenge it is subsequently moved to the rear of its unit and loses the Hold Your Ground special rule until the end of the turn.

Like a normal standard, a Battle Standard adds +1 combat resolution in a close combat if it is in a friendly unit.

Unlike normal standards, the Battle Standard is lost if the bearer is slain – other models cannot pick it up, even if they are in the same unit.
